Google PPA...Not So Great

I spent some time over the weekend evaluating a Google PPA campaign I've been running for a few weeks. I knew the potential for fraud, especially with high payouts available, would be an issue with Google PPA but honestly never expected to see results this poor.

I have a lead generation form I've used with various affiliate networks and other programs over the past 24 months. It's always worked well - i.e., generated a profit. I set this form up for a Google PPA campaign and am honestly shocked with how poor the results are. According to my AdWords account I've received 124 conversions. The reality is only 4 of those conversions are actually valid - the other 120 have fake information.

I'm seeing this same trend across a number of PPA campaigns. Pretty disappointing to say the least. At this point It look like I have two choices - drastically cut back what I'm willing to pay per conversion, or, add a lot of extra validation to the form. Alternately I may just pull the plug on PPA for awhile until some of these issues get worked out.

Is anyone seeing decent results with Google PPA yet?

We too use a number of very well tested lead gen forms, with well over 4 years of data and success. Google's PPA has shown a huge % of false form fill outs, and this is with scrubbing phone numbers against a real time look up. Many of the prospects who are contacted say they never completed the form. Since this is a 3 step, highly detailed form, its like saying I dont remember going through Grad school. (Okay some of you may not). We have also found this same trend in our content match campaigns. Perhaps an attempt by some to pad their adsense numbers in hopes of getting targeted for PPA at the highest return.

Would you expect to have the same issue with a website that sells items and where success factor will be getting a credit card number?

No. Products sales will be a much safer bet than lead gen.

What the heck is PPA? When you use letters instead of a full name, you simply must use the full name the first time you write it.

For instance:

The economy of the United States of America (USA) is an unstoppable freight train, thundering toward ever-increasing prosperity.

Doomsayers, especially in the media, have often predicted the train must derail for some unspecified reason, but for over 200 years the people of the USA have proven the doomsayers wrong.

this can be a real mess, cuz peoples sometimes just submit fake information to look what's behind the form.

You just have to wait until they activate the option in your AdWords account.
